Tannenbaum

We went out and cut down our tree today. Given the ice storm we had this past week, it remained pretty treacherous. The tree is currently defrosting in the kitchen, and Joe is tending to the hives he has all over his hands. (Apparently he is allergic to pine. Good to know.) For the record, James only agreed to be in the picture if he could hold the saw.

snowy day

Today is the first real snow of the year. The kids are enthralled, and not quite sure why there isn't gobs of it to make snowpeople and angels. Such is life in the south. James also decided he was willing to sacrifice the ability to twirl his hair in his fingers in order to avoid having it brushed, so he is sporting a very short cut. I'll miss his hair, but not the wailing over tangles. Win-win.

thanksgiving in northern FL

We had a lovely time visiting with my parents. It had been 4 years since our last visit (J was still a baby), so it was long overdue. Most of my pictures came out atrociously, here are the viewable.

natural born killer...

...outtake. I was trying to get a holiday photo of the two boys. As I mentioned before, it is like trying to capture a dodo. This one was pretty freaking awesome though, in it's own right. The photo was re-edited by my friend Leah, for an old timey serial killer feel. Don't worry, we'll start a therapy fund.

P.S. For those of you out there who want a card---get me your address, unless you are positive I have it. Even if you are positive, get it to me anyway. Parents excluded.

oh the fun we had

We spent this past Sunday at a lovely little farm for the birthday of friend's one year old. We had a fantastic time. Here are a few pictures of the party, minus the other party-goers and birthday boy (I don't like putting pictures of other people's children up without their permission).

As an aside, E had his first hair cut today. The rat tail is gone.

autumn leaves

Bed is too small for my tiredness,
Give me a hilltop with trees.
Rock me to sleep in a cradle of dreams,
Send me a lullaby of leaves.

I was in hysterics

The kids are both still sick, so we were home today. When both kids are home it is very hard for me to get anything done. So, instead of a class I attempted some vinyasa, followed by handstand prep. As you can see, I can get nothing done.......without some help.

bourbon festival

Now, now before you get cranky with me about bringing the kids, they had a fantastic play area that we had to drag the kids away from crying (granted, they bounced and slid themselves into exhaustion).

Plus, they ate some pancakes with (bourbon) butter and (bourbon) syrup.

They even rode a 'Wild Turkey',

and were educated in the art of barrel making.

Now, it wasn't all for the kids,
1792 bourbon on the rocks as I drank a lovely 1792 on the rocks, but I think we can fairly call this a family day.

"so sweet you can almost see the sugary footprints"

That was a phrase my friend Milli used to describe her (adorable) daughter. I think it applies here too.

hummingbird festival

This morning we went to the farmer's market, then onto the local plant sale at nature preserve. We inadvertantly took a hike in the woods for a few hours, and saw a groundhog, along with a ton of snapdragons (and pokeberries for that matter). In the afternoon we headed over to a local garden preserve/arboretum for their annual hummingbird festival.
