bittersweet
James has received some beautiful new diaper covers over the past few days (since he has outgrown several, I am so sad to fold them up and put them away...). The top one is merino wool with embroidery on the bum.
The next few are of his gorgeous new longies hand knitted by Zersha. She does such amazing work, and also knitted us a pair of charcoal clam-diggers (shorties). He was busy rolling away as I took the pictures.
Today is fairly bittersweet for me. I found out I will be completing my clinical internship next year, meaning we are likely moving (across town), and will begin the great childcare search. I matched at Harvard, so will be at a few affiliated hospitals on alternate days. It is nice to know I was a desirable candidate, though I would much prefer to be at home with James. I tell myself, it is only for a year, and then my PhD will be attained. I can reassess my goals afterwards.

6 month appointment
James had his 6 month appointment today, with a new doctor (who I like a lot better professionally, and we are more eye to eye on a few crucial matters). His current stats:
head: 41 cm
height: 26 inches
weight: 16 lbs 15 oz (he was unfed)
She was impressed with his growth, and told me to start childproofing (as the kid nearly rolled of the table...oops). He is on track developmentally, and she commented on his happy disposition :o)

Happy St. Valentine's Day!
We are having snow! This is the first accumulating snow of the year (and is supposedly a Nor'easter...I'll believe it when I see it). So, after Joe left for work James 'played' in the snow on our balcony for a second (Of course, I had camera in hand!). He seemed to like it. He is a boy after my own heart :o). Also, just in time for Valentine's day, James has developed stranger anxiety. He was very apprehensive at the hospital yesterday when I stopped in to collect my last subject's data (and to say hello to everyone in behavioral neurology, James has quite a fan club over there!) He screamed when my friend Nicole stopped by last night to visit (sorry Nicole), and again when the dog's playgroup leader came to pick them up. He has picked up the concept of familiar/different! What a smart boy!

at your request becs
I've been a bit errant in posting recently. The good news is I've officially submitted my match form for clinical internship, and now am playing the waiting game. We'll see if I get matched or if my buddy James and I will be home together next year.
So lets see...James and I have been attending a new 'class' at the Waldorf school, which he loves. He is very much a people person, even when other babies are playing, James is much more interested in them and their moms than the toys. He is still my little barnacle, though we are working on him enjoying a bit of independent play (with me sitting next to him rather than him playing on me). It is going slowly. Joe has had a doozy of a cold this past week. Thankfully James and I have been spared thus far, though James has had a very difficult time sleeping and has been nursing at least once an hour all night. We think it is a combination of a growth spurt, possible teething, and fighting off Joe's plague. In other news, Joe sadly shaved his beard.
James has also started licking my face and smiling when I ask for a kiss. Is this kid cute or what?!
Here is a picture from this weekend in memory of the beard, one of the jellybean sleeping this morning, and one of him showing off his drool from last Friday(notice the wet shirt- what do you think-bones growing in his mouth?).
